Pojagi - verho, joka herää henkiin valosta ja valossa

... mutta on myös varsinaisen hankala kuvattava minun kamerataidoillani ja -välineilläni, argh :-).

 

Inspiraatio ja ohje korealaisen verhon, pojagin tekemiseen löytyi tanskalaisesta sivustolta Alt.dk (tanskalaisen naistenlehden Alt for damerne kotisivu, sama kustantaja julkaisee mm. Boligliv:iä ja Hendes Verden -lehteä ja sivustolla onkin sekä sisustusjuttuja että neulonta- ja virkkausohjeita kyseisistä lehdistä). 

Perinteisesti pojageja on ommeltu käsin, mutta itse käytin ompelukonetta, kuten Alt.dk-sivuston ohjeessakin. Verhon kankaat ovat erilaisia pellavakankaan jämäpaloja ja puhkikuluneista tyynynpäällisistä talteen leikattuja ehjiä osia. Luulenpa, että tästä lähtee taas uusi käsityöinnostus ja -rakkaus liikkeelle :-). Kankaanpaloja, vanhoja lakanoita jne kotoa kyllä löytyy useampaankin verhoon ja josko kädenjälki myös toiston myötä kehittyisi siistimmäksi. Toisaalta tykkään myös siitä, että verho ei ole niin symmetrinen. 

Jos oikein olen huomannut, niin tilkkutyöt tuntuvat muutoinkin taas trendaavan eri puolilla maailmaa ainakin Pinterestin perusteella. Muodin puolellahan on myös viime aikoina näkynyt mm. tikkitakkeja, osa myös vanhoista tilkkutäkeistä ommeltuja, kuten mm. nämä tanskalaisen tekstiilisuunnitteiljan Line Sander Johansenin kauniit takit ja liivit sekä torontolaisen Rebecca Caulfordin tilkkutakit ja virkatuista vintagepeitoista tehdyt kertakaikkisen huikeat puserot ja jakut.

Viikonloppuna viimeisteltyä

- 2 x pyöreä tyyny Novitan Isoveli-langasta (sininen) ja Camarosen Lamauldista (nelivärinen versio). Ohje on Erika Knightin kirjasta Värikkäät silmukat. Tein näihin myös sisustyynyt itse käyttämättömästä vierastyynystä ja vanhoista kankaanjämistä. Senttiä paria isommat sisustyynyt tosin olisivat voineet olla halkaisijoiltaan, mutta kelpaavat kyllä miulle näinkin. Ja tuota ympyrän alun ja lopun yhdistämistä neuletyössä en vielä oikein siististi osannut tehdä, silmukoinniksi sitä kait kutsutaan. Toiv. toisen kerran sujuu jo paremmin :-).

- Taas yksi virkattu pussukka sateenkaaren väreissä Novitan Nalle-langasta ja muutama sävy taitaa olla Novitan Muumitaloa (tähän pussukkaan/laukkuun saattaa vielä tulla olkahihna ja vuorikin puuttuu).

Ja mitähän sitä sitten seuraavaksi keksisi kokeilla?

Lately - Viime aikoina

... tai hieman uusia virkkaustekniikkakokeiluita ja sisustusjuttuja. 

Huhtikuun virkkaustyöpajassa Marrakeschissa wood & wool stoolin Ingrid opetti meille tämän kivan lenkkivirkkaustekniikan. Englanniksi taitaa kulkea nimellä loop stitch ja Punomosta löysin tiedon, että suomeksi silmukasta käytetään nimiä lenkkivirkkaus, nyppyvirkkaus ja ryijyvirkkaus. Unohtanut tietysti olin miten tällä tekniikalla virkataan, mutta YouTube:sta löytyy mm. tämä video avuksi. Jostain syystä minun lenkkini kuitenkin kääntyvät koko ajan nyt ylöspäin (vaikeuttaa hieman virkkausta) ja en muista, että näin olisi ollut Marrakechissa virkatessa. 

Yllä on kuitenkin pieni tyynynpäällinen todennäköisesti tulossa tekniikkaharjoitteena, kun lenkkien saman pituiseksi virkkaaminen vaatii omilta käsiltä totuttelua. Lankana on Novitan suomivilla. Ihanan rentouttava virkata näillä syksyn viilenevillä säillä villaa, joka tuoksuu mukavasti lampaalle ja eikös lopputuloksestakin tule lampaan turkin omainen? 

Tästä tekniikastahan on myös moneksi. Lenkkien kokoa ja etäisyyttä toisiinsa voi vahdella. Ingridillä on myös myynnissä useampi houkuttava ohje. Tyynyn aloitimme Marrakechisssa ja tämän liivin ohjeen hankin häneltä myös viime syksynä, mutta en ole löytänyt inspiroivaa lankaa sen tekemiseen.

Ingrid from wood & wool stool teached us to crochet this wonderful loop stitch during the workshop in Marrakesch in April. I have now started to crochet with this technique a little pillow with some Finnish sheep wool. I like to work with wool in Autumn and the smell of the yarn is relaxing now that the weather is getting colder and days shorter very fast up here in North. Unfortunately I had of course forgotten the technique, but luckily there are many video instructions, like this one on YouTube. Ingrid has also many lovely patterns for sale for this technique, links are above in the Finnish text.   

Sitten läksin hieman leikkimään Novita Alpaca Woolin jämillä eli yhdistämään kirjovirkkausta ja ryijyvirkkausta, kun kerran tällä sekin nimi on, ja ajatuksena oli tehdä yhden palan ryijy. Samalla piti testata miltä lenkit näyttävät auki leikattuina. Tämäkin tietysti lähti taas vähän lapasesta ja nyt tarkoituksena on tehdä neljän palan simppeli ryijy ja sitten jos myöhemmin varsinaisesti ryijyä virkkaan niin valita siihen jokin paksu(mpi) kokovillainen lanka.

Tällä hetkellähän kaikki kudotut seinävaatteet ja mm. makramee ovat myös kovasti taas muodissa. Iso kansainvälinen nimi on australialainen Maryanne Moodie, jonka podcast Woolful.com:ssa on yksi omia suosikkejani. Hän puhuu siinä innostavasti oman tarinansa lisäksi viisaita sanoja mm. omien töiden jakamisesta avoimesti ja kopioinnin pelkäämisestä.  

Then my hook started to go its own way of course and the pillow is not yet finished because I started to crochet these squares above for a little and traditional rya rug (the stitch is also called rya stitch in Finnish). Here I have combined this loop stitch with tapestry crochet made with single stitches. I think this will be a wall-hanging made of four squares and somehow feels very Finnish in its simplicity.  

Timanttejakin on lisää syntynyt syksyisissä sävyissä, en vaan voinut vastustaa tätä väriyhdistelmää. Mielessä on, että tekisin yhden ohjeen, johon sisällyttäisin nämä pussukat eri kokoineen ja olen myös passannut nämä kaikki eri vetoketjun pituuksille jne. Itsellä on melkein koko ajan yksi näitä pieniä timantteja koukulla, kun ovat niin mukavia virkata. Parempi ehkä myös todeta, että Ipadin päällisiä olen siksi tehnyt monta, koska siinä on sopivan kokoinen pinta kirjovirkkaukseen. Henkilökohtaisesti en aina tiedä näiden laitteiden autuudesta ja ammatin puolesta (aikuis)opettajana on vielä ihan hakusessa miten tätä laitetta voisi parhaiten hyödyntää. Muutoinkin on tällä hetkellä stressiä, surua ja epävarmuutta turhankin paljon ilmassa työtilanteen takia, mutta ainahan asiat lopulta lutviutuu.

And not a post without some diamonds, and this time in Autumn shades. I have made several pouches and purses with this little diamond pattern and have been thinking that perhaps I could make one instruction containing patterns for all the purses with the same little diamond pattern (?) 

Viime aikoina on julkaistu paljon mukavia käsityökirjoja, mutta myös sisustuskirjoja ja minulla on ollut yksi selailussa Ruotsista, Ida Magntornin Home Stories. Tämä on kaunis selailukirja ja kansikuva tunnelmineen veti jo puoleensa ja on ihan oman tyylistä sisustusta. Pidin eritoten siitä, että kirja on rakennettu päivänkulun muotoon. Ja löytyi ihan Helmetin kautta lainaan, heti kirjan ilmestyttyä.

Vaikka jouluun on vielä aikaa, teki niin kovasti mieli kokeilla eukalyptuskranssin tekoa viime viikolla, että tilasin nipun oksia läheiseen kukkakauppaan. Ripustin kranssin oven ulkopuolelle ja useamman päivän se toikin mukavaa tuoksua kerrokseen, toivottavasti naapuritkin siitä ilahtuivat ja nauttivat. Muutenkin jouluisia kässäprojekteja alkaa olla mielessä ja toivottavasti saan niitä tännekin päiviteltyä lähiviikkoina.

Many new interior books have also been published lately, and I was happy to get this Swedish book Home Stories by Ida Mangtorn from the local library. It really talks to my own taste for interior design and is lovely to browse through. 

It is still a couple of months to Christmas, but I had to make a wreath of Eucalyptus already now and I hanged it to the door for the neighbors to enjoy of the lovely scent as well during the first days. Otherwise Christmas craft projects are on my mind already, and hope to show a few here in the coming weeks. 

Muutama käsityöprojekti on valmiiksi asti päässyt, viimeistelemättä ja puolikkaita ajatuksia on sitäkin enemmän. Etsinnässä on myös lanka, joka inspiroisi ja olen useampaa kokeillut, mutta en vielä löytänyt. Mutta kenties sitäkin mieluisampia ovat nämä muutamat valmistuneet prjektit. Yllä olevan tyynyn tein samalla kuviolla kuin laukun aiemmin. Tässä tyynyssä lankana oli Novitan uutuus Alpaca Wool. Muuten on hyvä fiilis projektista, mutta olisin voinut mieluummin virkata taustan tälle tyynylle tai tehdä sen mustikan sävyisestä pellavasta, kuten aluksi oli ajatuksena. En ole myöskään ihan varma mittasuhteista (tyyny on pitkähkö ja napitus ja kuvio pituutta vielä lisäävät), mutta oikein hyvä selkätuki tämä on työskennellessä ja kuviota on mukava katsella. Kuvio muuten näyttää monimutkaisemmalta virkata mitä se on, oikeasti siinä on vain kolme erilaista kerrosta, joita vaihdellen kuvio syntyy ja joka neljäs kerros on ns. lepokerros eli helpompi langanvaihdoiltaan virkata.

Taas on muuten ollut myös ilo seurata tanskalaista tv-ohjelmaa, Etelä-Jyllannin paikallistelevisio TVSyd näyttää ohjelmaa Den store strikkedyst - eli "Koko Suomi leipoo"-ohjelman kaltaista neulontakilpailua (tanskaksi sen nimi on Den store bagedyst). Neulontakilpailun toinen jakso on katsottavissa englanninkielisillä tekstityksillä myös YouTubesta televisiokanavan itse lataamana. Tämä näyttää myös jo olevan ohjelman toinen kausi. Sen verran googlailin, että tämä pienen paikallistelevision ohjelma on yllättänyt kaikki menestyksellään Tanskassa ja formaattia on myyty/ollaan myymässä mm. Saksaan, Japaniin ja Norjaan. Tiedä onko tässä sitten uusi tanskalainen tv-menestys (?) Ja eikö olisi kiva katsella jotain vastaavaa suomalaisena versionakin?

I haven't been very productive when it comes to finishing projects last weeks, but pillow above got finished and there are many projects to finish and to continue working forward. The pillow is crocheted with a wool alpaca blend (a new yarn from the Finnish Novita) and even though the pattern looks quite detailed, it actually contains only three different rows of tapestry crochet and was easy to keep on mind and didn't have to look at the chart that much when crocheting. Next step is to try a rug with the same pattern. Above is also a link to a Danish TV-show, The Great Knit Off, a knitting contest in the style of "The Great British Bake-off". Ten contestants knit different kind of projects and each week one have to leave the competition. You can find at least one episode with English subtitles on YouTube if you like to have a look at it. I enjoy looking this program and crocheting at the same time.

This and that

Some pictures and projects from the last weeks, this and that. A-L from blog Bewitched fingers has kindly remembered me with Liebster Award. Here are my answers to the 11 questions that followed with the award. Unfortunately I am really bad at sending these awards forward and I have the feeling that this award has been going around in blogs a lot already. So I thought to only answer the questions I got. 

1. Which craft project are you most proud of?

Well, I don't actually know, but maybe a knitted sweater I made some years ago and which you see in one of the pictures above - or the color work part of it. Each round of the color work took an hour to knit and the instruction was not very clear so all the decreases had to be counted at the same time as following the pattern. I am also pretty proud of Lenni and Laila. And I am happy that I figured out the technique for diamonds with clear lines of course - and all the other patterns you can create with the same technique. 

2. Do you have any favorite pattern?

It is difficult to name just one, and I don't often follow any pattern even though I love to buy patterns. I just never seem to have time to try them even though there are so many patterns by wonderful designers out there. Creating and exploring by myself is just my way of crocheting. But I would love to crochet and knit more projects with patterns from others, and I know I have a lot to learn as well. I just have to take some more time for that. Above you see one wonderful book I have been looking at lately, by Anna Wilkinson. The book contains many lovely cardigan patterns, a type of crochet project I have not yet had the courage to try. I also admire for example the work of Danish designer Jeanette from Lutter Idyl. She is just such a skilled, versatile crocheter and designer, and has a modern take on crochet (and I hope to get her new book in my hands soon).

3. Your best memory from craft class at school?

Oh dear, this is a tough one as well. Probably a pair of leg warmers with fair isle pattern I knitted at the age of 14-15? I used them many years. So it was all about pattern and color for me already back then, if I now start to think about it.

4. And your worst?

My first knitted cardigan with color work, I guess I was also 14 when I knitted that. I had made a big mistake in one of the patterns in the middle of the cardigan :-). And I don't think I was actually pleased with most of the projects from the time because I just didn't have the same patience to learn and finish projects than now. 

5. Why did you start blogging?

Needed something new, back in 2009 after having a hard time at work. I tried to think what I liked to do as a child and found crafting. So I started this blog and started learning and reviving skills in crochet and knitting. I remember how proud I was when I managed to crochet my first basket and how lovely it was to make and create something very concrete compared to work. It is a bit sad that I seldom feel the same accomplishment nowadays even though I often like the outcome of what I make. When creating your own projects and patterns, the process of making is a lot longer of course as well, starting from choosing the yarn and hook for a project. And this process is sometimes frustrating and the joy disappears on the way. Then I just leave the project there and pick it up later again. In this post you see pics of my crochet projects from lately and each and one of these are still a bit under construction, or the first versions. I am for example going to use the arrow pattern for another project. 

6. Where would you like to travel?

There are so many places, but here are a few: Azores, Halifax in Canada (and to stay a few days in Iceland on the way), Lisbon, Gothenburg and Aarhus. Above you also see one place I like visiting, one of the beautiful houses in the little town of Lund (part of museum Kulturen), taken almost exactly one year ago. I have also studied in Lund one semester at the university ages ago and wouldn't mind living there again for some time. I think it is an inspiring little city and near Copenhagen as well.

7. What kind of a cook are you?

I am most often busy with crafting and crocheting so I prefer that in my free time :-) . I bake more than cook, simple and quick things, like bread rolls, apple pies and blueberry pies. I like to bake without too many kitchen appliances and without hurry. Baking is as much about enjoyment for different senses as about the end result. I like to feel the dough in my hands, to smell the lovely scent at home. I also like to use ecological products as much as possible. When it comes to cooking I just often make salads, soups, pizza and sometimes some Indian flavors and often fish in different ways. 

8. Chocolate cake or cheesecake

Chocolate cake. One of the simple baking projects I like is kladdkaka, the Swedish version of mudcake.

9. Favorite month?

I like autumn time as probably many of us crocheters and knitters, but every month has its good sides (maybe November excluded). I try to go out for walks in the nature and every time there is something to admire and to discover during every season.

10. Which song is playing in your head at the moment?

A French song Belle sung by Garou, Daniel Lavoie and Patrick Fiori.

11. Do you have any other hobbies than craft related?

Nothing regular. I read some, but very irregularly. Last fall I took a couple of courses in ceramics and would love to learn more, and to make my own plates and cups with pottery wheel. Hopefully someday. I am a home person and interested in interior design as well.

Well, I guess this was more than enough about me.
